Most people are familiar with the infamous “poker face.” Some people, whether by natural talent or practice, have the uncanny ability to hide their thoughts. It’s certainly advantageous in a game of poker,
as any gesture you make can signify to other players what kind of hand you have. However, even professional poker players have little “tells” or nuances in body language, which give away their emotions or
thought process. The same thing occurs when you sit down and play online slots as well, or even bingo, for that matter. Here are a few things you can watch for in people that will tell gain insights on their
thoughts and behaviors. You can also use the info to see which things apply to you.

Attire

Clothing says a lot about the kinds of wagers a person will make. If you’re prone to sitting in your pajamas or other relaxed attire while playing online slots, there’s a good chance you’re a free spirit when it
comes to placing bets. There may be no rhyme or reason behind your style, besides intuition. On one spin, you may hit max bet, but on the next, you may opt for a single coin. If you tend to dress smartly or conservatively, your bets will probably mirror that as well. Those with more provocative or trendy attire tend to lean towards higher bets.

Atmosphere

Where and how you play says a lot about your gambling habits as well. If you use a mobile device, you probably spend more time and money playing than the average gambler. Those who use desktop PCs
and laptops generally spend less, but some of this depends on how orderly your gaming area is. Those who play on desks littered with paper, empty soda cans, and ash trays tend to wager more each bet
and spend more overall. If your workspace is tidy and neat, you’re more likely to limit your gameplay and place smaller wagers. Oddly enough, those who keep photos of their family near their gaming area,
whether framed on the wall, or as wallpaper on the computer, often spend less money overall, too.

Music

The type of music a person plays may not be indicative of any gambling trait. However, it does affect gambling habits. The tempo of the music creates a physical, yet unconscious, response in people. If music
with a fast beat is playing, a person’s fight or flight response will often kick in. This means that they receive a surge of adrenaline, and their heart beats faster. In terms of gambling, this makes them more prone
to take risky bets or to click the spin button in rapid succession. Fast music can also encourage a person to play multiple games at once, so if the website offers mini-games alongside a main game, they’re more
likely to partake. As you play your normal games, think about the music that accompanies it. If you catch that the developer or casino is playing toe-tapping tunes, they just might be hijacking your flight or fight response. If you’re ok with that, game on, but if you’re trying to limit yourself, turn down your speakers and choose your own music.

Gestures

In poker, gestures can make or break a game, which is why most players learn to fake them. In games of chance, players aren’t likely at all to hide emotion. That is, unless your spouse has been playing for six
hours straight or has just spent more money than he or she should have. Then, you might see a little bit of buffing with body gestures. If you’re trying to gauge how well someone is doing on a game of chance
without being nosy and looking at the screen, take a look at their body language. Someone who has lost a lot of money or has been playing for too long will likely have their shoulders hunched, and their eyes
will be a little vacant. Someone who is on a winning streak will probably have better posture, and will be smiling. Naturally, as losing spins occur, you’ll see their lips purse or an outright frown. If you’re worried
that someone might be betting too much, watch how closely they lean towards the screen. Obviously, this doesn’t work if the person has vision problems, but it’s otherwise a good indicator. Those who lean in
closely with each click are probably betting larger sums of money. Someone who is betting large sums of money, but is losing, might be leaning far back and slouching. Watch for eye rolls and other signs of
irritation, which can help you determine how much they’re losing. If someone you know likes to do sports betting, an indication that they’re betting large sums of money is the number of times they check on
the score or log onto their sportsbook venue.

While some of these indicators are fairly obvious if you know anything about human nature, others are interesting psychological quirks.
Keep these in mind next time you visit an online casino and see if you fit the common profiles.

Haha so true for me and the music. The faster the higher the bets I tend to make or click the stop button on my own instead of letting it just stop.

If I gamble online I never have any music running.
The landbased casino I used to visit in my hometown had some soft background music running.
It happened when I played some slots in pubs that music was really loud and yes if I think back now, I bet higher the louder and faster the music was.
