In what will surely be of interest to those who live in the State of Kentucky, the Governor of the State has demanded that the General Asembly take up the debate on legalising slot machines.

Governor Beshear, who during his campaign run stated that one of his top priorities was to expand gambling in the state, has decided that it is time to bring this issue to a conclusion.

Kentucky faces a budget deficit of almost 1 billion dollars next year and the Governor says that it is either increased gambling revenues or higher taxes that will have to make up this deficit.

Two neighboring states, West Virginia and Indiana, currently allow slots at their racetracks and revenue which could be going into the Kentucky coffers is being bled off into those states.

In fact, a portion of the revenue generated by the slots under proposal would go to support the horse racing industry in Kentucky, which is the home of the Kentucky Derby.

We will update this story as it unfolds.
