    Hey, everyone.

My finances are very tight, I've been wavering over making a decision to start playing poker again and continuing to refrain from the wonderful game.

The urge to log-on to both Bonus Paradise and my Bwin account have been so strong over the last few weeks I am not sure I can resist, especially as the school term is over and it is the summer holidays. Well, I know I can resist because I have done so for the past few months because I understand the risks of online poker in a credit crunch and recession.

However, I really want to continue and play a few hands once in a while and continue posting on this great site but I fear that it will draw me back into playing poker.

I have contemplated with soley playing freerolls and play money but I fear that if I do so, I will end up going onto real money.

Should I give in or resist?

    :thank you: for your advice.

Well, if the money is way too tight and you can't afford
to play smaller amounts then maybe you should stay away. But, if you are diciplined,
you could save maybe $5 a week, and in about 6 weeks, make a $30 deposit, and play
    within those limits.

I know its hard to be diciplined in such a way, but you seem to be able to
stay away for a while at a time, so maybe save up $25-$30 bucks, then
pick a room like Big Bet Poker that accepts smaller deposits other than
the $50 minimum that alot of bigger poker rooms require.

The use bankroll managemant to keep it from going away too fast.

If you can't do this, and the money is way to tight,
Then maybe you should wait for the right time for you.

Easy question: (please do not feel offended, I never would call anyone here addicted!)

Imagine to be an sober alcoholic - would you go to clubs and sit down at the bar to watch others drinking? While having your own water or milk?

My advise would be: stay away from poker if you only have the slightest doubt about if you can handle it.

Thank you so much for your advice guys, I can't thank you enough.

    :thank you:

You've basically summed up what I am thinking about- one side of me is; "Stay completely away, don't get drawn in". Which is why I have stayed away from all things poker, even the WSOP which I missed so much. The other side is; "Well, by staying away so long I must have control, stick to small limits and freerolls".

I know what I want to do......Play small-stakes and be active on Bonus Paradise, but is that what I should do.

    Dear Arachnaphid,
1st I want to say, that you are a very nice member and we all love to read your posts.

Of course we love having you around,
but we would not like that you have a serious gambling problem hon
I mean, I dont want you really get in big money troubles.
So all I can say is, please think always twice before you deposit,
make sure everthing what has to be paid monthly for your living is paid.
Calculate how much you could afford then to gamble.

You really know yourself best hon,
you only can make the decision,
I would be sad to not see you anymore here at Bonus Paradise,
but if this helps you, then this is absolute understandable,
    you and your life matter.

    :thank you: :hugs:

  7. hopefully whatever descision you make is right for you. i enjoy the process of building from freerolls and only deposit if i'm ready to make a withdraw or comp out a bonus. i hope you can find the same pleasure that i do from this process.

Firstly, I would like to thank you all for you support and advice. It is much appriciated.
    :thank you:

I have taken in your advice and have come to a conclusion, I have decided to play every other month, so for August I shall stay away from all things poker. If by the end of August I have stayed away, I will play a little in September and then in October I shall once again steer clear.

I think this will help mentally as during the month I am not playing I will be able to see 'the light' whilst saving up by not playing, and then I will be able to enjoy 'the reward' for a month before recovering and once again staying away.

There will always be temptations, so I ask you Marina if you could ban me from Bonus Paradise untill August is over. Because I fear that the desire to post on a Gambling Forum will lead me to playing a few hands online which I don't want.

Once again, thanks guys- I'll see you all in September :)

    :thank you:

It's a good thing to know yourself well Arachnaphid. Respect!!

Further I want to mention I never made a deposit in a pokerroom from my own reallife money, cause with a family with 3 kids that just ain't always possible. Nowadays I use my pokermoney to do extra fun things in reallife :D

So luckily there is a shitload of free pokermoney on almost every pokerroom to start with. So my tip, just google for free money and make some profit with that cash to play with.

I hope August worked out well, and that playing a little this month will help you to work on your self-discipline. It's not a simple thing for everyone to refrain from doing things they know they shouldn't do, or to keep from doing these things too much. Many people can improve, so with luck and concentration, you'll prove to be one of them.
