Gaming tax to increase less quickly after criticism from the sector. The gambling tax will increase less quickly than previously intended.
The cabinet has decided on an interim step to 34.2 percent in 2025, sources report.
The rate is now 30.5 percent. From 2026, the gambling tax rate will then rise to the 37.8 percent agreed in the main agreement.
The interim step was decided to give the sector more time to adapt. Moreover, the increase in the gambling tax would also have direct consequences for the Dutch lottery's contribution to sports. Sports association NOC*NSF previously warned that this will lead to a dramatic loss of income.
Holland Casino was previously angry about the increase in gambling taxes. The company is not in very good financial shape and fears major losses if the measure continues.
But in an initial response, the casino company says that the gradual increase will also hurt a lot.
"If it is true that the gambling tax will increase by no less than a quarter in two years, that is a hard blow. It means that we will have to take drastic
measures in our internal business operations to be able to absorb this cost item of tens of millions of euros." , a spokesperson said.
"Holland Casino will consult with the responsible ministries in the coming period to find a way forward in which the company can continue to contribute sustainably
to the safe and responsible offering of games of chance. That will be quite a job."
