PokerStars' attempt to establish a Guinness record for the
World’s Largest Poker Tournament was successful say numerous sources.
The tournament, which saw blind levels increasing every 10 minutes,
had $500,000 guaranteed up for grabs.
35,000 players took part in the tournament, according to various reports,
and if that number is verified by the Guinness Book of Records,
will be a world record.
Pokerplayermagazine reports that the number was met, the tourney
lasted 9.5 hours and player Stan34powa was the eventual tournament
winner while onlinecasinonews.com reports that Stan34powa
took home $30,000.
The record is similar to a summer promotion by PokerStars which
drew 20,000 players and was unofficially dubbed "the largest cash
tournament ever held" at the time.
The Guinness Book of Records' London office is said to take six weeks
to confirm legitimacy of a record.
