Microgaming Signs Lucrative Deal to Develop Branded Halloween Slot
Remember Michael Meyers, the character from the classic horror movie Halloween from the 70’s?
Now this evil killer is back to frighten the life out of online players thanks to the software group, Microgaming.
The Isle of Man based company signed a lucrative licensing deal recently that will allow it to create casino games based on the Halloween franchise.
The brand new slot game will carry the same name as the iconic movie that was directed by Joe Carpenter and which broke multiple industry records.
The original Halloween movie was produced on a shoe-string budget of just $300,000, but went on to earn $70 million.
The movie tells the tale of Michael Meyers who killed his sister when he was just 6 years old. 15 years later, he returns to his home town to go on another killing spree.
Halloween kicked off an iconic franchise which went on to incorporate ten movies to date. It also made the US National Film Registry for preservation.
In true Microgaming fashion, the group sought to bring mainstream to the reels and, as such, entered into an agreement with Compass International Pictures through a
deal brokered by Creative Licensing Corporation. The groups have promised that the new Halloween video slot will be released later this year and is currently in development.
All the memorable characters from the original movie will appear in the new game, while the famous soundtrack will also play an important role in bringing the original feel of the movie home.
The Senior Vice President of Compass International Pictures, Ryan Freimann said that he was excited to team up with Creative Licensing and Microgaming to bring
Michael Myers and Halloween to all the loyal fans of the brand “in the best possible ways” through top licensees who create products that honor the character, film and franchise.
Also commenting on this deal was the games publisher of Microgaming, David Reynolds who said: “Halloween is a true classic and set the standard for modern horror films.
It was immeasurably influential in the slasher genre of movies, so it is great to be working with such an iconic and respected brand. Embracing all the elements of what made
the movie such a success, our games team are busy developing a slot for release later in the year.”
Halloween was also voted as one of the 100 Greatest Movies of All Times (Total Film) in a poll run in 2010. It was the first movie in which the young actress Jamie Lee Curtis played in.
The movie grossed $47 million in the US box offices when it was first released and another $23 million internationally.
Now, nearly 40 years later, Michael Meyers comes back to haunt fans of this brand because, after all, ‘you can’t kill the bogeyman…’
