Okay, here's the answer. I've kept it a secret for as long as I could, but since you asked so very nicely, I will solve that life-long mystery of yours:

Superman's suit was bullet-proof, not his head! The bad guys always aimed the bullets at his chest, but the emptied gun, when thrown at him, always seemed to go toward his head. Now, if he'd had a cool, tricked out head covering or mask made from the same material, we wouldn't be having this conversation, would we? ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!
