Love to get the word from the peanut gallery- do you think that gambling can really be a serious addiction like alcohol or drug abuse?

You know this has been brought up before and I have thought about it.
I think ANYTHING can become an addiction and ANYONE can become an addict....From the babies and their pacifiers...to the little old Lady with 63 Cats...People are addicted to something in one form or another and we will continue to be. The Key is MODERATION...Enjoy the good things in MODERATION.

Yeah...I have seen more than once people are ruining their lifes with gambling addiction. I can´t believe it first.
I think it belongs to the personality of each...if you are in danger to be addictive..it can be everything like shopping, watching TV, eating...and gambling.

Everything in moderation no matter what it is. I think there are some people whoo discover that the urge to play and win gets totally out of control and for those people then sure it is an addiction. I also think there are just some people who have addictive personalities and there will always be something that will suck them in.

It certainly can be but I think you have to know your limits. If you know you have a problem with gambling then you probably should not be visiting forums and sites like this one. The temptation is too high for you! Gambling can be destructive just like anything can be when you put too much into it.

yeah, it like game, you mind want to win it because human love winning, it very
happy and joy when u win, and when you lose your want what is your back.

well, for me, it depends on the situation, if you only gamble for the sake of fun or for your pastime.. then it may not be called addiction..but if you do gambling beyond necessary in a sense that, you skip meals just to gamble or you tend to forget about your job in order to gamble, then it becomes an addiction.. :socool:

Random house dictionary defines addiction as: "the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma." Dictionary.com Unabridged
Based on the Random House Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006.

So if this applies to a particular situation then it's an addiction. I think the key is that which is posted in so may of the posts above: MODERATION.

Just another perspective. Have a great day.:hugs:

I must agree that online Poker or Poker in general is addicting. But I have one rule that works for me even though I play most of the day almost every day; NEVER gamble with my own money. There are so many sites that offer free tournaments that give a cash prize to the winners and this is how to build a bankroll. If you are a good enough player you can build such a bankroll for free. If you can't win in a free tournament then would you not only be losing your hard earned cash playing in a tournament that you paid to get into. Get good first at no expense to yourself and you may never have to spend your own cash.
