Numerous studies have shown that there’s very little crossover between people who play casino games online and those who play in land-based casinos.
For some reason, each attracts a different group. Although there haven’t been any widely-published studies which indicate why this might be, perhaps a
look at the pros and cons of playing casino games online will help shed some light on the subject.

Time Management

Pro: You don’t have to get dressed up to go out.
Con: You might be without an excuse to change out of your pajamas.

Pro: You don’t have to waste time and gas on driving.
Con: You might not leave the house for days.

Pro: You can play anywhere you want to, even on your phone.
Con: You alarm your family when you spend an abnormally long amount of time in the bathroom.

Winning

Pro: The return-to-player (RTP) values are generally higher in online casinos, because there’s minimal overhead.
Con: You might play more, because statistically, you should win more often.

Pro: You don’t have to feel the frustration of getting up from a machine and watching the next person win a huge jackpot.
Con: The leaderboards will still tell you if someone else won the big jackpot, even if you aren’t online when it happens.

Atmosphere

Pro: You don’t have to carry antibacterial wipes around with you to clean off a machine before you use it. (Ok, very few people actually do this, but surely you’ve been tempted.)
Con: You have to clean the crumbs out of your keyboard more often.

Pro: You don’t have to worry about strangers lurking over your shoulder or asking about your winnings.
Con: You have family lurking over your shoulder, asking about winnings, and wondering when dinner will be ready.

Pro: You can dance around the room excitedly when you’ve won, without worry about how people will perceive you.
Con: Your family already thinks you’re nuts and your pets won’t come near you while you’re online.

Pro: You don’t have to worry about using dirty public bathrooms.
Con: You’re reminded that you still need to clean your own.

Pro: You don’t feel the heavy eyes of security upon you when you’re on a winning streak.
Con: Your family miraculously appears when you’re on a winning streak and asks for a cut.

Pro: Nobody looks at you funny for keeping a good-luck charm close or for performing rituals to ensure a win.
Con: You spend more time using search engines to research hard data to increase your odds.

Variety

Pro: Every game imaginable is just a click away. Whether you like classic slots, video slots, bingo, table games, poker or something else, it can be found with ease.
Con: You get less exercise because you’re not hiking from one end of the casino to the other in search of something worthwhile.

Pro: You can easily switch languages in most casinos and you could probably become fluent in any one of a dozen within a week or so if you wanted to be.
Con: There are probably a ton of casinos you’ve heard about that you’d like to become a member of, but you can’t because they don’t allow players from your country.

Pro: You get to meet people from all over the world in casino chat rooms and on casino-related forums.
Con: You might never get to meet your online casino BFFs because they’re so far away.

Money

Pro: You’ll save money by not eating in the casino’s restaurant.
Con: You still have to cook.

Pro: Free spins, bonuses and rewards are continually available, so you have lots of chances to win without having to deposit cash.
Con: You know the rules of at least 15 casinos, plus the stipulations for cashing out after redeeming every possible incentive each one offers, yet you can’t remember where you left your keys.

Pro: You don’t have to wait in long lines to collect your winnings.
Con: Sometimes it can take a week or more to get your money.

Pro: Most games are available to play free, so you can test it and learn the rules before playing for real cash without worry.
Con: You develop an especially refined taste in games and as time passes, fewer of them seem worthy of your attention.

Basically, the benefits of playing in an online casino are that you save time, increase your odds of winning, spend less money, and have more control over your environment.
Perhaps when scientists finally get around to researching why certain people gravitate to online casinos over land-based ones, they’ll come to an obvious answer.
After all, the only logical conclusion is that people who game online are savvy and clever individuals who know how to get maximum entertainment for minimum effort and expense.

Really interesting article.

I enjoy playing online for all the above reasons and time management. If you work full time and your days are full, it's hard to find the time to drive to a land based Casino. When I do go to a land based Casino, I make it one of my social events. But it seems I need more cash when playing there and have to spend money on the hotel.
