Hey guys, my name is Timothy and I am new to the online gambling community.
I have recently played some poker but I lost around 500 euros in the last couple of months. Is this a common thing at online gambling? I mean I had some wins but the majority of the games were oblivious. Is there a way to limit my losses or could you guide me to some tips? Thanks and sorry for the newb post.

Welcome Timothy33,

To your question, I am sorry, I do not play poker, I prefer slots and video poker.

Maybe some others can give you some tips.

Been reading through your post again, and I would like to tell you a few things.

1st, gambling is entertainment, if you start to gamble with the thought that you must win, then you better do not start to play.
Always know that they money you bet can be lost.
Casinos, Pokersites and Sportsbook are running a business, and if everyone could just win easy as 1,2,3 there would soon be zero online gambling operators.

If I start to play, I know the money I deposit can be lost, I never play with money which I actually need for something else.
I always pay 1st everything I need to pay, and then I see what I have left to risk.

As said, I play for entertainment, excitement , a chance to make more of my money ... But I do never count on winning.

Maybe also read our tips here .... Responsible Gambling

Wishing you all the best and good luck :)

Hi Timothy, a pleasure to meet you ;)

I just thought I would mention something that may be helpful to you. You can always place limits on how much you can deposit per day/week/month. You can choose an amount that is comfortable to you and within your limits. You can usually find this in the account section and has a label such as limits or something close.
I too have had moments where I have lost money but this is why they call it a gamble after all. You win some, you lose some but as long as you are still having fun that is all that matter. Like Marina says above :

I find the more I want to win or really could use the win, the less I actually win. I always gamble for entertainment because if it was easy to make a living from I am sure everyone would be a professional gambler.
One of the rules I try to keep for myself is to deposit so much, and if I win I take the money that is above my deposit and do something other then gambling with it. Then I still use what I initially deposited to continue to play. I won't allow my self to use the winnings. Sometimes of course I do, but I try really hard not too.
I would really try with the limits on your account, that you can set yourself and once they are there you cannot change them for so long. In my opinion this would be the best way to keep track of spending and losses.
Hope you enjoy the forum, it is a pretty cool place to be :)

Welcome Timothy33. Love having newbies aboard. Marina and deemac80 have some great insight. Most of us here are slot and video poker players
but are surely active with online gambling. Look around and enjoy yourself at Bonus Paradise.

Thank you for the welcome guys, after some thought, reading (Your article marina is awesome written, it helped me balance my thoughts a lot) and some money being lost, i decided to leave poker gambling as it is too demanding for me. I just want to have fun, win-lose and feel the excitement of the gamble! Another thing i wanted to ask you guys is if there is any way to get some of your money you gambled returned?

What do you mean with this Timothy?
If you risked your money and lost it, it is lost. Sorry but I do not know of a way how this could get returned, I never looked into this, never ever even thought about this.

All the best for you Timothy :)
