With all the glitz and thrills surrounding gambling, it makes a great movie topic and is featured one way or another in almost every other movie.
Remember Casino Royale, in which Bond plays Poker with the villain, or countless other flicks which use a casino sequence to spice things up.

Here are the all-time top 10 movies that have gambling as their central theme.

10. Rounders 1998
A must-watch for Poker players, the 1998 drama features Matt Damon as a New York City college student who discovers a flaring passion and an unusual talent for Poker; but he is haunted by a foolish friend and threatened by thugs. The film shows underground Poker clubs of the 90s with great accuracy. John Malkovich plays the role of the bad guy "Teddy KGB" in the film.

9. Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels 1998
This fast-paced Guy Ritchie thriller is about some British gamblers who get cheated at brag and end up owing half-a-million pounds to a formidable mobster,
who gives them one week to arrange the money. Fearing for their lives, they resort to a bizarre scheme of stealing and robbing to repay their debt,
and that's when things spin out of control.

8. Croupier 2000
Another British production featuring Clive Owen as a casino dealer, the movie shows the casino culture from an insider's perspective. It seems things are pretty dark behind the bright lights and the glamour that casinos use to attract people.

7. Casino 1995
Based on the true story of “Lefty” Rosenthal, this Martin Scorcese flick was a block buster because of its violent action sequences and intense plot, not to mention the amazing accuracy with which it depicts the behind-the-scenes working of the now demolished Stardust Casino.

6.Two For the Money (2005)
Although not as good as some of the other movies on this list, this one makes it to the top-10 because it's one of the very few movies on sports betting. Starring Matthew McConaughey and Al Pacino, the movie delivers some impressive performances apart from lifting the veil from the illusive sports gambling industry.

5. The Hustler (1961)
Take a trip down the cinema history with this all-time gambling classic starring Pau Newman. His character 'Eddie' is an addicted gambler who cares about winning more than he cares about money. Shot in Black and White, the movie features some of the best gambling scenes ever brought to the big screen, including the final sequence with 'Fats'.

4. The Sting (1973)
Another Paul Newman classic costarring Robert Redford, the Sting tells the story of two con men who would pull off every sort of scam under the sun. Poker and Horse Racing are their favorite sports for practicing their skills, and anyone who is interested in these may want to watch this movie a second or third time.

3. The Gambler (1974)
Riddled with breathtaking performances from the somewhat obscure actor James Caan, The Gambler is about a NYU professor hooked by a crippling addiction to games of chance. He gambles on everything, until he gets into deeper troubles in sports betting and dwindles down into self-destruction and psychological depravity. Intense and riveting, the little-known movie is a must-watch for gamblers and non-gamblers.

2. A Big Hand for the Little Lady (1966)
Starring Henry Fonda as Meredith and Joanne Woodward as Mary, this famous gambling flick is the tale of a husband and wife who get entangled in a high-stakes Poker game while traveling to California. Meredith suffers a heart attack after losing their life's savings in a hand, and Mary takes over the play with her little knowledge of the game. Full of suspense and impressive acting, the timeless classic will keep you glued to your seat.

1. High Roller: The Stu Ungar Story (2003)
Stu Ungar was arguably the best Poker player ever born. He won millions at Blackjack, Poker and Rummy, but was undone when he tried his luck with horse racing. Michael Imperioli of The Sopranos fame plays Ungar in the movie and delivers an absorbing performance. The movie shows Unger's reckless lifestyle and amazing prowess at card games, delving into his troubled psyche that led to his bankruptcy, drug addiction and death.

What's really interesting about the top ten list, is that there is nothing within the last few years.......

hmmm, since we are all experienced gamblers, maybe it's time to make a movie.....lol

What would we name it?

I say lets do a comedy.....I don't think there is a comedy out there for gambling.

Two important props?? Big screen and chair.

This is like a classroom where you keep your head down so the teacher won't ask you questions :) Why I say this because Marina is not engaging :D Marina, Kotsy asked a question - name a film please :D

Marina is probably sleeping right now. What country are you from AfelG?

She's in the Netherlands and I'm in USA, so the time difference matters.
