A new program that will help protect vulnerable gamblers was rolled out by the industry’s Remote Gambling Association (RGA) last week.
The scheme, to be known as GAMSTOP, is set to meet the conditions for responsible gambling that were directed in the UK’s 2014 Gambling Act.
What stands out most with the new GAMSTOP program, is that it will include a self-exclusion scheme, where gamblers have the option to bar themselves from any UK Gambling Commission
licensed remote casino by simply visiting the GAMSTOP website. This will streamline the process for problem gamblers, and help them make wise decisions about their gambling habits.
By visiting the site, problem gamblers will also be able to find assistance through support services that will be promoted by GAMSTOP.
The director of social responsibility for the RGA, Fiona Palmer said that the association has reached “a very exciting stage” in the development of GAMSTOP.
She said that the new branding has now been established and the process design is extremely well advanced, adding that the focus, in the coming months,
will be on technology integration and industry communication.
The Remote Gambling Association (RGA) is confident that it will be capable of delivering a self-exclusion scheme on the national scale that is needed
to help consumers who require this type of assistance in order to manage their gambling, according to Palmer.
The UK Gambling Commission’s program director, Paul Hope, also spoke about GAMSTOP.
“The ability for consumers to exclude themselves from all online gambling with a single request will be a powerful tool for those that need it,” he said.
“We welcome the work the RGA is doing to develop GAMSTOP and look forward to it becoming available.”
